Don’t just coast – be Shore Footed this summer

The summer holidays are nearly upon us, and within days many of us will be heading down to Cranfield, Tyrella and Newcastle to make the most of the summer sun on the beach.  By the end of the holidays we’ll all be finding sand in strange places, and probably have a mountain of seaside ‘treasures’ collected by the children to bring home.

But how many of us really know about the seashore that we head to?  Are you and your family sometimes baffled by the creatures you find in rockpools?  Surprised by coming across crowds of seals hauled up on the shore?  Curious about the strange rock formations and shifting sands of our coastal landscape?

This summer, join Mourne Heritage Trust is getting closer to our coast.  A programme of seaside safaris, guided walks, marine festivals and wildlife boat trips throughout the summer give everyone a chance to find out just a little bit more about our coastal environment.  Ask the questions you’ve always wanted to ask and share your stories and memories of the Mourne seashore.

Thanks to funding from the Loughs Agency, Shore Footed events are free unless marked otherwise.  Please come prepared for all weathers and wear strong shoes such as wellies as we will be wandering the beaches, searching seaweed for sea creatures and exploring rock pools.  (Both adults and children alike!)  If attending seashore safaris or guided walks please be on time as, like the tide, we won’t wait!
