Saturday 4th July 2009 2.00pm-5.00pm
This ever popular trip will be led by Sam Moore, who is currently researching the archaeology of Slieve Donard. You can also hear Sam giving a talk on the ‘Slieve Donard Archaeological Project’ the previous evening (Fri 3rd July 7.30pm) in Newcastle Library.
The Bus Trip will include visits to the medieval churches at Maghera and St Mary’s, Ballaghanery, at Bloody Bridge. Maghera is associated with St Domangart or Donard, a follower of St Patrick, and St Mary’s, Ballaghanery, is associated with the medieval pilgrimage to his hermitage in a prehistoric cairn on the summit of Slieve Donard.
The minibus will leave from Newcastle Tourist Information Centre at 2.00pm and return to the car park, Donard Park about 5.00pm.
