Project Description

 MMLP and Mourne Heritage Trust are working alongside local volunteers and The National Trust to re – establish this declining priority species of Juniper in the Mourne area. 

The partnership seeks to deliver this important project through a system of monitoring, maintenance, and regeneration. 

The project to date has: 

• Mapped existing populations of Juniper through intensive survey of the Mourne area
• Propagated 80 new plants in our green houses
• Planted out Juniper into the Mourne area 

We are also working alongside True Harvest Seeds to collect the seeds from this genetically distinct population of Juniper in the Mournes and send these to Kew Gardens to enter into storage as part of the millennium seed bank - a project which aims to save plants worldwide through establishing viable seed collections with a focus on plants most at risk:
