Oral History and Storytelling

Funded by

Mourne Mountains Landscape Partnership (Heritage Lottery Fund)

Project Timescale

Ongoing throughout the lifetime of the project (2013 – 2016)

Project Description

The Mourne area has a very rich cultural heritage and there are a lot of stories that help to convey how our landscape has been shaped over the years, such as tales from the building of the Mourne Wall, the Silent Valley Dams and the Binnian Tunnel. The Mournes is also famous for its thriving granite industry and there is a wealth of information around the lives of the men that worked this famous local stone.

This project aims to rekindle the traditional skill of storytelling.

How can you get involved ?

• By attending our story telling sessions (advertised through local press, Mournelive website and Facebook)
• By availing of our training opportunities to develop your skills
• By helping us to gather local stories so that we can add them to our archive and preserve our heritage
