Project Description

This project involved the creation and waymarking of 3 new trails at the Silent Valley Mountain Park, County Down. The trails encourage visitors to explore the site more extensively, whilst learning more about the rich heritage associated with the building of the dams and the Binnian Tunnel.

Heritage Trail – this circular route includes views over the dam and passes the Visitor Interpretive Centre, which is located on the site of the original Police Station.

Mountain Trail – this trail involves steep sections through typical Mourne upland habitat, returning via a section of woodland. The route takes walkers past the original site of a Watertown House.

Challenge Trail – taking in steep upland habitat as well as park woodland, this trail includes the Quarry Viewpoint before passing the footings of an original Watertown house. This brings the total number of trails available at this scenic location to 6.
