Close of BIG Lottery funded Active Lifestyles programme

Big thanks to Big Lottery for supporting Active Lifestyles for the last 7 years with a Reaching Communities Grant. Thanks to this we have enabled over 3200 individuals to take part in over 9000 activity days of practical conservation which has brought real benefits to the Mourne environment. Volunteers have been involved in key projects like maintenance of upland paths in the mountains, restoration of at risk areas of heathland habitat, maintaining wildfire control sites and all aspects of the Trees for Mourne Project from growing native trees from seed and managing and maintaining them in our tree nursery, through to planting the saplings on sites throughout the Mourne area.

Mourne Heritage Trust will continue to support our core volunteers who provide such valuable support for the Countryside Services Team and Rangers and, depending on future funding developments, will seek to create new volunteering opportunities to further enhance the conservation of the environment and heritage of Mourne.
